FAQs
What Is Carbon Black?
Carbon Black is a form of paracrystalline carbon that can be used as an additive or filler in various products such as tires, plastics, and paints. Due to its high tint strength, carbon black powder is commonly used as a pigment to color products such as plastics, paints, resins, inks, and toner.
How Does Austin Black 325 Stack Up Against Other Fillers?
Compared to other clay, talc, and calcium carbonate fillers, Austin Black 325 is one of the most cost-effective and versatile organic fillers available. Austin Black 325 has a low specific gravity of 1.30, a pH value of 7.0, and unmatched consistency thanks to CFI’s source stability, logistics, and customer service. With three US plants for processing, eight local sources for raw materials, an on-site ISO 9001:2015 certified lab for monitoring and analysis, and a third-party lab for testing new formulas, reliability is ensured.
What Are The Different Types of Coal?
The four major types of coal by rank are Anthracite, Bituminous, Subbituminous, and Lignite. Anthracite coal is the highest rank and is hard, brittle, and lustrous. It contains a high percentage of fixed carbon and a low percentage of volatile matter. Bituminous is a blocky, banded coal with shiny and dull layers, a high heating value, and low moisture content. Subbituminous coal is black and dull with a low-to-moderate heating value. Lignite coal, often referred to as brown coal, is the lowest grade and contains the least concentration of carbon. It has a low heating value and high moisture content.
Is Austin Black 325 Carbon Black?
No. Austin Black 325 is a dry, finely divided powder produced from high-quality, low volatile, sustainable bituminous coal that offers many formula-improving benefits not attainable with Carbon Black, including:
a lower specific gravity of 1.30, compared to the specific gravity of carbon blacks at 1.80
a platy structure that helps create an air barrier to reduce air permeation and improve air retention
a small particle size that readily disperses allowing it to work as a mixing aid to facilitate air release and reduce bubble and blister issues.
How Can Austin Black 325 Be Carbon Neutral?
We are committed to sustainability and helping our customers achieve their environmental goals. There are low CO2 emissions from our facility since we do not burn anything within our plant or release any chemicals during our processing. We are proud of our low emissions industrial process that does not generate greenhouse gases or waste.
What Makes Austin Black 325 More Cost Effective Than Other Fillers?
Due to the low specific gravity of Austin Black 325, you can fill more molds with fewer pounds of material, creating more finished product at a significantly lower per pound volume cost. With a specific gravity of 1.30, compared to other mineral fillers at 2.60 to 2.90, Austin Black 325 can fill up to three times as much volumetric space helping to reduce compound costs and ultimately increase profitability.
